DESCRIPTION:Mathias Lemke: The identification of sound sources is a common 
 problem in aero-acoustics. Different parameters are sought\, among these a
 re optimal signals and positions of the sources. An adjoint-based approach
  for optimal sound source identification\, which employs computational aer
 o-acoustic techniques\, is presented. The approach allows considering comp
 lex situations\, such as non-homogeneous base flow\, thermal stratificatio
 n as well as complex geometries.\nThree different applications are present
 ed as a proof-of-concept: optimization of a sound reinforcement setup\, th
 e localization of (moving) sound sources\, and transition control by exter
 nal acoustic forcing.sed methods significantly improve our abilities to un
 derstand and optimize acoustical and fluid dynamical systems.
