 iate polynomials is one of the fundamental tasks of numerics\, and there i
 s still a wide gap between root finders that are well understood in theory
  and those that perform well in practice.\nIn this talk\, we will give an 
 overview of root-finding methods and their interpretation as complex dynam
 ical systems. The main focus will the Weierstrass/Durand-Kerner method\, w
 here we show how to use methods from computer algebra to investigate the e
 xistence of attracting periodic cycles.\n(This talk is based on joint work
  with Dierk Schleicher and Michael Stoll).
