SUMMARY: (...): Hiroshi ISOZAKI - University of Tsukuba - Lattice Hamiltoni
 ans and their continuum limits
DESCRIPTION:: Discrete operators (i.e. difference operators) are often intr
oduced as an approximation of\ndifferential operators. However\, if we sta
rt form the discrete model\, it is not obvious that discrete\nsystems have
continuum limits as the mesh size tends to 0. In this talk\, we show that
  on physically\nimportant lattices\, e.g. the square\, triangular\, hexago
nal lattices\, the solutions for the stationary\nSchroedinger equations as
sociated to the continuous spectrum converge to those for the continuous\n
model. In particular\, we can deal with graphen and graphite. Our solution
s satisfy the radiation\ncondition\, hence they describe the scattering ph
enomena. In the case of the hexagonal lattice\, one can\nderive both of Sc
hroedinger equations and Dirac equations according to the energy.\nThis is
a joint work with Arne Jensen in Aalborg.
