DESCRIPTION:Louis Usala: Abstract: How to understand music with mathematics
  ? This seminar aims at answering the following questions:\n\n- why have o
 nly a few rhythms been selected in a wide range of cultures worldwide?\n\n
 - how to generate new rhythms that "sound good"?\n\n(- if time allows it: 
 how to dance Salsa?)\n\nUnlike most research in musicology\, our approach 
 (based on a few papers published in the last decade) is based on a geometr
 ic representation of these rhythms. This approach enables making intensive
  use of several mathematical tools like complex numbers\, entropy\, prime 
 numbers\, Fourier transform and so on.\n\nThis seminar does not require an
 y prior knowledge in mathematics or music.
