SUMMARY:Workshop (École Normale Supérieure de Paris ): International Work
shop on Wavelets & CFD (SSeMID)
DESCRIPTION:Workshop: WORKSHOP\nThe key strength of wavelet methods lies in
the ability of the wavelet transform to compress information by consideri
ng the local regularity of a function. They are particularly well suited f
or the simulation of inhomogeneous flows presenting highly localized struc
 tures\, such as flames\, shear layers\, shock waves\, vortices\, etc. For
this type of problems\, the transformed field consists of a large number o
f non-zero wavelet coefficients only in areas where sharp gradients exist\
, and very few non-zero coefficients where the solution is smooth.\n-\nThi
s makes wavelets excellent candidates for the development of adaptive sche
mes. Wavelet-based multiresolution approaches have been extensively studie
d in the literature. However\, the use of wavelets for modelling and simul
ation of turbulent flows\, as well as their use in the framework of high-o
rder discontinuous finite-element methods is scarce.\n-\nThe aim of this w
orkshop is ta bring together research scientists and PhD students working
in the field of wavelet-based CFD methods ta get a global view of the stat
e-of-the-art of this type of methods in the different areas of CFD. The fo
llowing tapies will be covered:\n- Error estimation and mesh adaptation\n-
  Shock-detection techniques\n- Turbulence modeling and simulation\n- Post-
processing\, data analysis and data compression\n-\nThe workshop will be o
rganized in 5 invited talks given by leading experts in the field\, and 1
poster session.\n-\nlnvited speakers\n- Jennifer Ryan (University of East
 Anglia\, UK)\n- Siegfried Müller (RWTH Aachen University\, Germany)\n- Ni
cholas Kevlahan (McMaster University\, Canada)\n- Maxime Bassenne (Stanfor
 d University\, USA)\n- Thomas Engels (Ecole Normale Supérieure\, France)\
n-\nOrganizers\n- Marta de la Llave Plata (ONERA)\,\n- Kai Schneider (I2M\
, AMU)\,\n- Marie Farge (ENS)\n-\nThis event is organized by the ONERA in
collaboration with the Aix-Marseille Université and the École Normale Su
périeure\, in the framework of the European H2020 project SSeMID – Stab
ility and Sensitivity Methods for Industrial Design.\n-\n\nSite web du WOR
