DESCRIPTION:: Résumé :\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nA smooth\, consistent regression tre
 e and ensemble extensions\nthrough RF and GBT\n\nJoint work with S. Alkhou
 ry (LIG)\, E. Devijver (LIG) and E. Gaussier (LIG)\n\n\nTree-based ensembl
 e methods\, as Random\nForests and Gradient Boosted Trees\, have been\nsuc
 cessfully used for regression problems in many\napplications and research 
 studies. We propose\nhere a generalization of regression trees\, referred\
 nto as smooth trees\, that adapt to the smoothness\nof the link function. 
 By doing so\, one consid-\ners that an observation\, even though it belong
 s\nto a particular region\, can still be associated to\nother regions with
  a certain weight that depends\non the distance between the observation an
 d the\nregion. This generalization raises several difficult\nquestions\, i
 n particular regarding consistency. We\nshow here that smooth trees are in
 deed consistent\,\na property that has not been established\, as far\nas w
 e know\, on previous proposals as soft trees.\nWe then show how smooth reg
 ression trees can\nbe used in different ensemble methods\, namely\nRandom 
 Forests and Gradient Boosted Trees. Ex-\nperiments conducted on several da
 ta sets further\nillustrate the good behavior of smooth trees and\ntheir e
 nsemble extensions.
