DESCRIPTION:: For many mathematicians the frustration is that the beautiful
  concrete ideas we see in our heads do not translate to other people outsi
 de of mathematics. Mathematical images and objects are a get way to get pa
 st this barrier and can sometimes be useful to help understand what is hap
 pening even for mathematicians. I will start by showing some of the mathem
 atical materials that I have created\, images\, wooden models and more. We
  will then explore a system where hook together paper pieces demonstrate c
 urvature\, and I will finish by describing a new project with Jeremy Van H
 orn-Morris and Salvador Barraza Lopez in Arkansas where we are using these
  models to understand the differential geometry of graphene and other 2d c
