DESCRIPTION:: We consider the problem of the construction of the nanophoton
 icstructures of arbitrary geometry with prescribed desired properties.We r
 eformulate this problem as an optimization problem for theTikhonov functio
 nal which is minimized on adaptively locally refinedmeshes. These meshes a
 re refined only in places where the nanophotonicstructure should be design
 ed. Our special symmetric mesh refinementprocedure allows the construction
  of different nanophotonicstructures.  We illustrate efficiency of our ada
 ptive optimizationalgorithm on the construction of nanophotonic structure
