SUMMARY: (...): Geodesic subspaces in arithmetic hyperbolic manifolds
DESCRIPTION:: We will discuss the problem of classifying immersed totally g
 eodesic subspaces of complete\, finite volume hyperbolic manifolds and orb
 ifolds. We will introduce some techniques coming from the theory of algebr
 aic groups that allow us to construct an abundance of examples of geodesi
 c subspaces in arithmetic hyperbolic manifolds. Finally we will show that\
 , in the arithmetic case\, all geodesic subspaces can be constructed usin
 g these methods. This is joint work with M. Belolipetski\, N. Bogachev and
  A. Kolpakov.
