DESCRIPTION:Ole Ossen : This talk is about the semistable reduction of alge
 braic curves. We will discuss several ways of describing semistable models
  of curves\, among them Berkovich's theory of non-archimedean analytic cur
 ves. This unlocks the different function of Cohen\, Temkin\, and Trushin a
 s a tool for studying wild covers of curves. As the most important example
 \, we will treat the reduction of plane quartics at p=3.
