DESCRIPTION:Siamak Taati: In equilibrium statistical mechanics\, the macros
 copic states of a\nsystem at thermal equilibrium are described by probabil
 ity measures on\nthe space of microscopic states that maximize pressure.  
 For systems\nwhose microscopic states are symbolic configurations from a s
 ubshift\,\nDobrushin\, Lanford and Ruelle showed that under broad conditio
 ns\,\nglobal and local equilibrium conditions are equivalent\, that is\,\n
 "equilibrium measures" are the same as (shift-invariant) "Gibbs\nmeasures"
 .  I will discuss some variants and generalizations of this\ntheorem\, in 
 particular\, a broad generalization to systems in contact\nwith a random e
 nvironment.  Some symbolic dynamics issues arise.  The\nunderlying lattice
  can be any countable amenable group.\n\nThis is joint work with Sebastiá
 n Barbieri\, Ricardo Gómez-Aíza and\nBrian Marcus (Nonlinearity\, 2020).
