DESCRIPTION:Thang T. Q. Lê: The skein algebra of a surfaces has connection
 s to classical objects like the character variety and to quantum objects l
 ike the Jones-Witten invariants. We show how to decompose the skein algebr
 a of a surface into elementary blocks corresponding to the triangles in an
  ideal triangulation of the surface. We also explain the relation between 
 the skein algebra and the quantum Teichmu"ller space. As an application we
  give a simple proof of the existence of the quantum trace map of Bonahon 
 and Wong.
