 low and porous-medium systems: Stokes-Brinkman-Darcy models
DESCRIPTION:Linheng Ruan: Coupled fluid--porous systems appear in a wide ra
 nge of environmental settings and industrial applications. Suitable coupli
 ng concepts should be applied to characterise fluid behaviour between the 
 plain fluid and porous medium. Most of the coupling conditions are limited
  for the flows parallel or perpendicular to the fluid--porous interface. I
 n this talk\, we consider a transition zone between the free-flow and poro
 us-medium regions and propose both full- and reduced-dimensional Stokes--B
 rinkman--Darcy models. The full-dimensional model consists of the Stokes e
 quations in the free flow\, the Brinkman equations in the transition zone\
 , and Darcy's law in the porous medium. Appropriate interface conditions a
 re chosen at the respective interfaces (free flow/transition zone\, transi
 tion zone/porous medium). In the reduced-dimensional formulation\, the thi
 ckness of the transition zone is assumed to be small enough\, and we treat
  it as a lower dimensional inclusion. The Brinkman equations are averaged 
 across the transition zone and coupled to the full-dimensional Stokes and 
 Darcy equations with suitable transmission conditions. The well-posedness 
 of both full- and reduced-dimensional problems is proved. The numerical si
 mulation results are provided and validated against alternative coupling c
 onditions available in the literature.
