SUMMARY:Xilin Deng (Harbin Institute of Technology\, Chine): Bistable waves
in a partially degenerate model for mosquito population suppression via W
 olbachia bacteria
DESCRIPTION:Xilin Deng: A great deal of effort has been dedicated to develo
ping and analyzing mathematical models to evaluate the effectiveness of th
e endosymbiotic bacterium Wolbachia in controlling infectious diseases suc
h as dengue and Zika\, and in managing their transmission vector\, the Aed
es mosquito. In this talk\, I will introduce a partial degeneration reacti
on-diffusion system with time-delay to study the population dynamics of wi
ld mosquitoes under suppression strategies via Wolbachia\, where diffusion
only occurs in adult mosquitoes. I will show the existence of bistable tr
aveling waves and the large-time behavior of the corresponding Cauchy prob
lem. Additionally\, I will show two releasing strategies of Wolbachia-infe
cted males to control the wild mosquito population. This talk is based on
a joint work with Professor Jian Fang.
