DESCRIPTION:Michelle Chu: Salem numbers are real algebraic integers greater
  than 1\, whose conjugates lie within the unit circle. They are directly r
 elated to the lengths of geodesics in arithmetic hyperbolic manifolds. In 
 this talk I will discuss joint work with Plinio Murillo on the existence o
 f given geodesic lengths in the rational length spectrum of an arithmetic 
 hyperbolic manifold of simplest type\, or equivalently\, the realization o
 f Salem numbers in commensurability classes of arithmetic groups.
