SUMMARY: (...): On a geometric parametrization of smooth irreducible p-adic
  representations
DESCRIPTION::  Let Irr(G) denote the set of smooth irreducible complex rep
 resentations of a reductive p-adic group G. The Bernstein decomposition th
 eorem provides us with a natural partition of Pi(G) into Bernstein compone
 nts\, and the irreducible representations on each component are in bijecti
 on with those of a Hecke algebra.\n\nIn this talk\, I will explain how to 
 construct the Lafforgue variety Laf(G)\, an infinite disjoint union of aff
 ine schemes equipped with an open dense subscheme whose geometric points p
 arametrize Pi(G). I will also show it comes equipped with a finite morphis
 m to the Bernstein variety.\n\nTime allowing\, I will also report on relat
 ed work in progress studying how the Lafforgue variety deforms when changi
 ng the parameter of an affine Hecke algebra. This is related to a conjectu
 re by Aubert\, Baum and Plymen.
