DESCRIPTION:Alex Little: The asymptotic behaviour of the partition function
 \nis one of the central questions of statistical mechanics.\nIn our work w
 e consider this problem\nwhen the external potential is complex valued\nan
 d for a particular statistical-mechanical model\,\na β-ensemble.\nWe prov
 e a full 1/N expansion\nof the logarithm of the partition function\,\nthe 
 so-called free energy.\nOur method can be regarded\nas an infinite dimensi
 onal version\nof the method of steepest descent\nfor contour integrals.\nT
 his is joint work\nwith A. Guionnet and K. Kozlowski.
