DESCRIPTION:Louis Usala: \n\n\n\nAbstract: Nowadays\, it seems obvious that
  mathematics provide tools to describe our physical reality. Newton's laws
  of motion\, Maxwell's equations for Electromagnetism\, Einstein's equatio
 ns of General Relativity are among the most influent examples of how to de
 scribe the world with numbers and how to predict the future with them. How
 ever\, this reasoning was neither obvious nor commonly used before the ear
 ly XVIIth century and Galileo's contributions to science.\n\nThe current r
 esearch in physics systematically uses mathematics as a powerful tool. Tho
 ugh\, physicists may neglect the mathematical structure underlying the num
 bers\, vectors and functions. Such structures provide great insights into 
 the behavior of our universe.\n\nIn this talk\, we will illustrate the con
 cept of tangent bundles with toy examples like the well-known pendulum. Th
 en we will describe and motivate the basic concepts of fiber bundles. Fina
 lly\, we will provide a new formalism for electromagnetism where Maxwell's
  equations look... ridiculously obvious.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLe séminaire des 
 doctorant⋅es de l'I2M et du CPT à Luminy regroupe chaque semaine les do
 ctorant⋅es du site autour d'un exposé plus ou moins (in)formel\, dans u
 n cadre convivial. Il est évidemment ouvert aux étudiant⋅es de master 
 et aux doctorant⋅es d'autres laboratoires.\n\nPour le moment\, le sémin
 aire a lieu dans la salle 500-504b du TPR2\, au 5ème étage.
