SUMMARY:Workshop (CIRM\, Luminy\, Marseille): Young Bayesians and Big Data
for Social Good (Morlet Chair Kerrie Mengersen)
DESCRIPTION:Workshop: \n\n\n\n CIRM - Jean-Morlet Chair \n Kerrie MENGERSEN
&amp\; Pierre PUDLO\n\nBayesian Modelling and Analysis of Big Data\n\nMod
élisation bayésienne et analyse du Big data\n\n\n 2018-Semester 2 \n\n\n
\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWORKSHOP\nYoung Bayesians and Big Data for
Social Good\nJeunes bayésiens et Big Data pour le bien de l'humanité\n(
 event 1911)\nDates: 23-26 November 2018\nPlace: CIRM (Marseille Luminy\, F
 rance)\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
 \n\n\n\n\n\n SCHEDULE \n\n\n\n\n\n BOOKLET \n\n\n\n\n\n PARTICIPANTS \n\n\
 n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRESUME\n\nLe concep
is increasing international interest and engagement in the concept of 'da
ta and statistics for social good'\, with volunteers and organisations wo
rking on issues such as human rights\, migration\, social justice and so
on. There is commensurate international interest in Bayesian modelling and
computation\, particularly in the area of Big Data.\n\nThe purpose of th
is workshop is to build on an emerging endeavour to bring these two areas
of activity together. Participants in the workshop will share research in
to Bayesian methods and big data for social good\, as well as discuss rel
ated problems that might be addressed using Bayesian approaches. In additi
on to formal presentations\, participants will form collaborative groups
to work on new problems and present their findings at a final session on
the last day of the workshop which overlaps with a more general conference
on 'Bayesian Statistics in the Big Data Era'.\n\nThe workshop will provi
de opportunities for early career researchers around the world who are int
erested in issues of social good to form lifelong international networks
for their immediate and future careers. The semi-structured environment w
ill encourage and progress new research opportunities. The anticipated out
puts of the workshop include outlines of journal articles and/or chapters
of a new book on this topic\, as well as a starting place for  practica
 l solutions to problems posed. \n\n\n\n \n\nORGANIZING COMMITTEE\n\n\
