A not necessarily piecewise isometry of the interval is called an interval translation map; the well known invertible case is known as an interval exchange. Interval translation maps arise as first return maps in rational polygonal billiards with spy mirrors.
I will speak on recent results with Sasha Skripchenko on the topological entropy and complexity of polygonal billiards with spy mirrors.
