Modular forms appeared during the 19th century, introduced, in particular for the study of Riemann surfaces of higher genus and of so-called elliptical functions: periodic meromorphic functions for a lattice of the plane, the extension of the notion of periodicity of real functions to functions of the complex plane .
The modular forms nevertheless contain important arithmetic data, of which I hope to be able to give you an overview, in particular by giving a proof of the four-square theorem using the theory of modular forms, and if time permits (or if I feel like it) to mention the modularity theorem behind the proof of Fermat’s theorem.
Le séminaire des doctorant⋅es de l’I2M et du CPT à Luminy regroupe chaque semaine les doctorant⋅es du site autour d’un exposé plus ou moins (in)formel, dans un cadre convivial. Il est évidemment ouvert aux étudiant⋅es de master et aux doctorant⋅es d’autres laboratoires.
C’est au rez-de-chaussée du bâtiment de « l’ancienne BU », dans la salle « Séminaire 2 » (au fond à gauche en sortant de l’escalier si vous venez de l’étage, au fond à droite si vous entrez par le rez-de-chaussée).
