The Ramanujan conjecture for the unitary groups over function fields

We present the Langlands-Shahidi method for studying automorphic L-functions, which we now make available in positive characteristic and we present an important application to the unitary groups. We take a globally generic cuspidal automorphic representation of a unitary group and produce a base change to Res_K/k GL(N). We combine the Langlands-Shahidi method with the Converse Theorem and then use the exact Ramanujan bounds of Laurent Lafforgue for general linear groups to establish the Ramanujan conjecture for the unitary groups.
