Decoding Information from Radiation (i.e. Hayden Preskill Experiment)

Abstract : I’ll discuss what happens when you throw a quantum diary into a pit of hot coals and watch it incinerate. In particular, I will ask: how much of the radiation from the coals must be collected before we can decode the contents of the diary? (Spoiler: the answer is #_of_qubits_in_diary + #_of_qubits_in_coal/2. Very cool). This is the very famous Hayden Preskill experiment. If there’s time I’ll discuss what this could mean for black hole evaporation.
