A possible approach to prove the unirationality or the uniruledness of the moduli spaces of curves or other interesting spaces is the explicit construction of dominant families. In this talk, I will explain a recent technique which makes use of matrix factorizations and show how it can be used to prove, e.g., the unirationality of the Hurwitz space H_8,12.
