In nature, animals are commonly challenged to move through complex flows composed ofliquids, gases and solids. However, our understanding of multiphase flow dynamics and their effect onanimal’s locomotion is still limited. In this talk, I will review recent findings on animal’s responseswhile moving through waterfalls, rainfall, and bubbling water surfaces, as well as the biologicalimplications. Finally, I will discuss animals’ capacity to autogenerate two-phase flows, such as theknifefish that can produce cavitation bubbles during suction.
