von Neumann algebras, quantum correlations and computability
The talk will revolve around the fascinating history of a fundamental question in the theory of operator algebras, posed by Alain Connes in 1976: « Does a finite von Neumann algebra dive into an ultraproduct of matrix algebras? » I will explain what this might mean, how this problem has surprisingly been connected to questions about the foundations of quantum mechanics, and finally how a solution based on computability has very recently been proposed.
