Abstract: I will introduce random matrix theory and discuss how it can be used to capture universal properties of the spectra of chaotic quantum systems. If there is time I will discuss how these universal spectral properties appear in a simple 2d gravity theory when we take wormhole contributions to the gravitational path integral into account. If there is even more time I will discuss why this is relevant for the information paradox.
