Abstract : During this talk, we will talk about braids. See you on Thursday.
Ok, I will explain a bit more: generally defined as interlaced hair strands, or threads, or other intertwined stuff; they can be studied as a mathematical object, which makes them even more cool, stylish and awesome! 😀
In this talk, we will start by giving a geometric, intuitive definition of braids. Then, we will give a topological definition, as well as a presentation of them as an abstract group. Finally, if time permits, we will relate these definitions of braid groups with finite symmetric groups, and give some applications in  mathematics (knot theory) and (particle) physics.
