We present two results about subelliptic wave equations, i.e.,
wave equations with a subelliptic Laplacian. The first one concerns
control theory: it says that subelliptic wave equations are never
controllable/observable. The second one concerns the propagation of
singularities for these equations: revisiting a paper by Melrose, we
describe how singularities of the initial datum propagate when time
evolves, and relate these results to modern sub-Riemannian geometry.
