Since the remarkable construction by Patterson and Sullivan for Fuchsian groups in the seventies, conformal densities have played a key role in understanding the asymptotic geometry and ergodic properties of discrete isometry groups of CAT(-1)-spaces. In this talk I will first describe the classical construction and some important properties of conformal densities. I will then discuss the difficulties and phenomena that occur when passing to higher rank CAT(0)-spaces such as products of CAT(-1)-spaces or symmetric spaces of higher rank.
