In this talk, we explain our results on classification of gapped ground states of 1+1 dim interacting Fermion systems. In case of non-interacting Fermion systems with translation symmetry, the ground states are in one to one correspondence with projection matrix valued functions on a torus (or equivalently vector bundles on a torus) and are classified by K theory. For the interacting case, no geometric correspondence is yet known, nevertheless, for 1+1 dimensional systems, using C*-operator algebraic methods, we obtain an invariant, so called « String Order » of classification of gapped ground states.
