Systoles and symmetric polyhedra in hyperbolic 3-space

It follows from Thurston’s theory of hyperbolic Dehn fillings that there are closed hyperbolic 3-manifolds with arbitrarily small systole. We illustrate this phenomenon via compact right-angled hyperbolic 3-polyhedra, viewed as reflection orbifolds, and explain its relevance to the construction of infinite families of pairwise incommensurable such polyhedra.
