Félicitations à Rémi Rhodes, co-lauréat du prix quatriennal George Pòlya 2022 de mathématiques décerné par le SIAM

Avec ses collaborateurs, Antti Kupiainen et Vincent Vargas, Rémi RHODES devient le co-lauréat du Prix George Pòlya 2022 de mathématiques.

Le prix George Pólya de mathématiques est décerné tous les quatre ans pour une contribution significative dans un domaine des mathématiques d’intérêt. Le comité du prix cite que « le prix Pólya est attribué à Kupiainen, Rhodes et Vargas pour une justification rigoureuse de la formule DOZZ pour les constantes de structure à trois points dans la théorie des champs conformes de Liouville ». Les membres du comité de sélection étaient Edward Saff (président), Vanderbilt University ; Wolfgang Dahmen, University of South Carolina ; Alicia Dickenstein, Universidad de Buenos Aires ; Arno Kuijlaars, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven ; et Kavita Ramanan, Brown University.
Le prix sera décerné lors de la réunion annuelle 2022 de la SIAM, qui se tiendra sous un format hybride du 11 au 15 juillet 2022 à Pittsburgh, en Pennsylvanie (États-Unis).

Rémi Rhodes, né à Marseille le 30 janvier 1979, est professeur de l’université d’Aix-Marseille et chercheur de l’institut de mathématiques de Marseille (I2M) dans l’équipe Probabilités du groupe Mathématiques de l’Aléatoire (ALEA) depuis 2018.
Issu de l’ENS de Cachan, il a soutenu sa thèse intitulée : « Homogénéisation en milieu aléatoire » en 2006 à l’université de Provence (son directeur de thèse était Étienne Pardoux). A partir de 2007, il devient maître de conférences au CEREMADE (université Paris-Dauphine). En 2012, il passe son habilitation à diriger des recherches (HDR) à l’université Paris-Dauphine (« Chaos multiplicatif et applications »). puis, en 2014, il est affecté auprès du LAMA, à l’université Paris-Est Marne la Vallée jusqu’en 2018, date à laquelle il revient dans sa ville natale.
En 2019, il est nommé membre junior de l’IUF pour 5 ans.
En tant que probabiliste, ses thématiques de recherche s’articulent autour de la théorie des champs de Liouville, du chaos multiplicatif gaussien et de l’approche probabiliste des théories quantiques de champs.
Notons qu’en 2019 R. Rhodes a été co-récipiendaire du prix Marc Yor de l’Académie des Sciences pour ses travaux sur le chaos multiplicatif et la gravité quantique de Liouville. Enfin, en 2016, , il avait également reçu avec Vincent Vargas le prix Bernoulli pour leur article « Gaussian multiplicative chaos and applications: A review » (Probability Surveys, v.11:315-392, 2014).

With his collaborators, Antti Kupiainen and Vincent Vargas, Rémi RHODES becomes the co-recipient of the 2022 George Pólya Prize for Mathematics.
The George Pólya Prize in Mathematics is awarded every four years for a significant contribution to a field of mathematics of interest. The committee cites that « the Pólya Prize is awarded to Kupiainen, Rhodes and Vargas for a rigorous justification of the DOZZ formula for three-point structure constants in Liouville conformal field theory. » The selection committee members were Edward Saff (chair), Vanderbilt University; Wolfgang Dahmen, University of South Carolina; Alicia Dickenstein, Universidad de Buenos Aires; Arno Kuijlaars, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven; and Kavita Ramanan, Brown University.
The award will be presented at the 2022 SIAM Annual Meeting, which will be held in a hybrid format on July 11-15, 2022 in Pittsburgh, PA, USA.

Rémi Rhodes, born in Marseille on January 30, 1979, is a professor at the University of Aix-Marseille and a researcher at the Institute of Mathematics of Marseille (I2M) in the Probability team of the Mathematics of Randomness group (ALEA) since 2018.
After graduating from ENS Cachan, he defended his thesis entitled « Homogenization in a random environment » in 2006 at the University of Provence (his thesis supervisor was Étienne Pardoux). In 2007, he became a lecturer at CEREMADE (Paris-Dauphine University). In 2012, he received his habilitation to direct research (HDR) at the University of Paris-Dauphine (« Multiplicative Chaos and Applications »). Then, in 2014, he was assigned to the LAMA, at the University of Paris-Est Marne la Vallée until 2018, when he returned to his home town.
In 2019, he is appointed junior member of the IUF for 5 years.
As a probabilist, his research themes revolve around Liouville field theory, Gaussian multiplicative chaos and the probabilistic approach to quantum field theories.
Note that in 2019 R. Rhodes was co-recipient of the Marc Yor Prize of the Academy of Sciences for his work on multiplicative chaos and Liouville quantum gravity. Finally, in 2016, , he had also received with Vincent Vargas the Bernoulli prize for their paper « Gaussian multiplicative chaos and applications: A review » (Probability Surveys, v.11:315-392, 2014).
